In your day-to-day work, you should be able to demonstrate that you use person-centred approaches and promote person-centred values.

Here is a list of some person-centred values, along with examples of how you may promote them:

Individuality | Being non-judgmental Encouraging individuals to choose their own clothes |
Independence | Encouraging individuals to do things for themselves rather than doing things for them |
Privacy | Knocking and requesting access before entering an individual's room or home Respecting an individual's wishes to have time alone |
Partnership | Collaborating with an individual on their care plan Helping an individual stick to a diet devised by their dietitian |
Choice | Asking an individual what they want to have for dinner Respecting and supporting an individuals decision even if you do not personally agree with it |
Dignity | Explaining what you are going to do before commencing personal care Always asking for consent |
Respect | Addressing an individual by their preferred name |
Rights | Explaining to an individual their right to complain if they are not happy with the service provided |
