The first unit of the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism introduces users to Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC), explaining what it is as well as how it is diagnosed and the theories that underpin it. It also explores some of the other conditions that frequently co-occur with autism and some of the general misconceptions society may have about autistic individuals.
It is split into six learning outcomes, each consisting of several assessment criteria.

- 4. Understand the characteristics that may be present in individuals with autism.
- 5. Know about conditions that commonly co-occur with autism.
- 6. Understand common misconceptions surrounding autism.
